Vibrant Bandipur

It was a long time since I visited this place. So all planned and set, and this time planned on staying a couple of days more. As always the hospitality at JLR was at its best. Every time I visit JLR, I am blown away by the knowledge and hospitality of the staff. There is something new to learn each time. Bandipur is indeed a Tiger Sanctuary, but it is also a reserved forest first. It might have come to spot light after the "Project Tiger", declining Tiger population, and the "WANT-TO-SEE-TIGER" attitude of the general public. It is not wrong but then, a forest has a lot of other vibrant wild animals. It is not wrong to go with the expectation to see a big cat. Who does not like, I also want to see. But then lets keep our eyes open for lot of other activities.

You will sometimes see a surprise visitor just siting there and posing for you. As if telling "hey dude, I also live here, along with the big cats. Click my pic also"

And then there is the national bird, just oblivious to the presence of lot of guests. The moment we open our eyes for the animals in the the forest we find lot of animals just posing for us.

You always get the feeling that you are watched in the forest. You feel the uneasiness of being watched from air and ground.

Keep an eye open while in the forest for all activity. I was lucky enough this time to spot a "Changeable Hawk Eagle" happily praying on junglefowl.

The way this beast de-feathered its pray was awesome. With such powerful beak to rip off the pray and the strong legs to hold the pray in place, is an sight to witness. Infact looking closing you may find the feathers lying all across the branch.

I could only imagine the hunting. The junglefowl, probably stood on chance. This raptor hunting it down like a guided missile, and the battle must have been truly over the moment the raptor wanted to have "Chicken-Tikka" for lunch.

Just a quick scan of the surroundings in the wild can be very fruitful. From Magpie Robin to Red-Wattled Lapwing. Even the occasionalVeneral Hanging Parakeet.

The forest is not just about "The King"

Yes indeed he is the King of the Jungle. But he also has lot of subjects. Big and Small.

Its an appeal to all the people who work in A/C floors, and feel they need a break from their hectic work, and head out to the forest for relaxation or with a camera to shoot that perfect Tiger photo, Keep the eyes open. Forest is not Tiger. Tiger is an integral part of the forest and it is important for us to help in its conservation. When you go and return without any sightings, please dont cry about it. May be you missed a lot of other actions that took place when we were only looking for a big cat.
